BREEAM (Bulding Research Establishment Environmetal Assesssment Method) is the world’s foremost environmental assessment method and rating system for buildings. BREEAM sets the standard for best practice in sustainable design. There are over 550,000 developments with certified BREEAM assessment ratings. Over two million buildings have been registered for assessment since BREEAM was first launched in 1990.

There are a number of schemes within BREEAM, such as New Construction (includes Health Care, Education, Industrial, Offices and Retail), BREEAM Communities and BREEAM Refurbishment. For more information visit the BREEAM website here.

BREEAM sets targets for nine categories and each category consists of a number of credits that can be attained. Section ten comprises the land use and ecology aspect. This category has the aim of reducing the ecological impact of the proposed development by minimising the loss of wildlife habitats, protecting existing ecological features and enhancing the site ecology.

OpenSpace is experienced in working on BREEAM projects and so is well placed to work with clients, developers, designers or architects. If you have a BREEAM project you would like to discuss, then call us on 01228 711841 or email
