Wetland

Natural wetlands are a valuable resource for both plant life and wildlife, acting as a haven for biodiversity. In order to protect such vegetation and wildlife, modern engineers have designed ways of creating alternative wetlands to accommodate pollution and excess storm water from housing estates and developments, thus providing flood protection.

Such man-made marshes cause pollutants to settle on the bottom of the marsh whilst at the same time releasing water that is purer than when it initially entered the marsh, which can provide a supply of drinking water.
